T's Book Review

What could be a better book recommendation than straight from a 4-year old?

What library book was your favorite?
Dirty Bertie!

Why is it your favorite?
(With hands raised in the air.)
That's cause I like him!

What happens in this story?
He picks up food and eats it when it's on the floor. And he eats his boogers. And that's the end.

Dirty Bertie by David Roberts

Yes, Dirty Bertie is about a little boy who has dirty habits. He picks his boogers, licks dogs, and tosses worms and bugs into his sister's hair. Of course, it was an immediate hit in our household.

Other favorites last month include:

Animal Nursery Tales by Richard Scarry
The Adventures of Curious George by H.A. Ray
Gotcha! by Gail Jorgensen
If You Give a Mouse a Cookie by Laura Numeroff

Using up the Leftover Frosting

After I made T's cupcakes, I still had some leftover frosting. When I was a young girl, my mom would always use up her extra frosting by spreading some onto graham crackers. I had long forgotten about this until a couple days ago. So, I went and got the frosting out of the fridge and made some frosted graham cracker cookies for T.

As a mother, I love that I get to share parts of my childhood with my own children now. T was very excited to have such a special treat.

Playdough Kitchen

Rather than using playdough at the table like we usually do, I brought it into T's play kitchen space.

We rolled out dough, made cookies, scooped ice cream,

baked, sliced,

and had a great time eating it all when we finished.

Thanks to my mom for suggesting this idea to me. :)

PARTY

It was quite fun this year planning for T's birthday party. It was the first year where she decided what she wanted to do and what kind of party she wanted. She let me know that she wanted a ballerina party and wanted everyone to be dancers and dance around. And, that's exactly what we did. Ballet music played, girls ran around in tutus, and fun was had by all. It was quite the party. It's hard to believe my baby girl is now four years old. I'm so thankful to be near family this year to make this birthday celebration even more special for her.

Flower Suncatcher for Father's Day

As usual, I was inspired by another creative idea from The Artful Parent. Her blog is one I am always browsing and gathering ideas from. If you haven't stopped by yet, please do!

I thought these flower suncatchers would be a perfect Father's Day gift this year. T and I went in the backyard and she gathered flowers, clovers, and leaves. We then came inside to stick them onto the contact paper to make a colorful suncatcher.

Her favorite part of this activity was pulling the petals and leaves apart into smaller bits. Then, we glued a cut-out paper plate around it and T decorated it with "I love you" and a little red heart. I was very proud of her because she wrote the letters herself (with very little help from me).

Hopefully the weather will begin to cooperate soon and show some sunshine for our little suncatcher (and for my own sanity..). I've definitely had enough of the cloudy, overcast days here in the Pacific Northwest.

We can't wait to give daddy his gift on Father's Day!

Painting with Water

I set out T's little chalkboard and a glass of water with her paintbrushes. I wasn't sure how this activity would go. Turns out, she very much liked it. She told me she was cleaning her chalkboard. I gave her a towel too to dry it as well.

She kept coming back to it through out the day and the following days. She definitely got that chalkboard clean!

I got the idea from this Buddha Board I've been eyeing for awhile now. I've seen it around blogland but just am not sure if I want to spend the money on it or not. Still debating.

T's Book Review

What could be a better book recommendation than straight from a 3-year old?

What library book was your favorite?
The Story About Ping

Why is it your favorite?
That's cause I picked it out.

What happens in this story?
(Flipping through the pages she describes her favorite part of the story.)
The boys are going to get him. And the boy grabbed Ping! The mom pulled him up with Ping.

Went on walks...

By the end of the week, the sun began to show itself.

Being Outdoors

A documentary I wanted to share about how important it is for children to spend time outside.
